Since its closure in 1993, local people have been campaigning to save Victoria Baths, a Grade 2 listed building, and return it to public use. The project received £500,000 funding for winning the BBC’s Restoration series in 2003, and in addition funding from Heritage Lottery Fund and English Heritage.
Buro Four was appointed as Project Manager for the restoration of Phase 1 including assisting in the preparation of a programme for the design and construction of the development, liaising with adjoining owners, liaising with the Heritage Lottery Fund and management of a wide group of stakeholders. Buro Four also advised the Council on the appropriate tendering and contractual arrangements for the project and advised in the selection of other consultants.
In May 2009, Buro Four was appointed to project manage the restoration 'Phase 1 Plus' works. With the additional funding achieved, Phase 1 Plus involved the restoration of the first class male pool hall roof, replacement of the basement windows and carrying out a structural condition survey investigation. Work started on site in September 2009 and will complete in June 2010 with an estimated cost of £1m.
