Buro Four has worked with Great Portland Estates on a series of commercial developments in London. Our current role is Construction Project Manager and Employers Agent on Wells and More Building, a new 5-storey mixed-use development in London W1. The site is occupied by three buildings in Mortimer Street and Great Titchfield Street. Most of the existing buildings have been demolished yet the Edwardian façade of Cavendish House and 32-34 Great Titchfield Street has been retained. The development includes 15,000 sq ft of retail, 6 market housing units in Cavendish House and 7 social housing units in Great Titchfield Street.
Buro Four was also appointed as the Project Manager and Contract Administrator for 180 Great Portland Street. This was an extensive refurbishment of a 1950s residential building to provide high-quality open plan office space. The development was a challenge as the brief was to maximise the lettable area, retain as much of the existing elevations as possible and initiate a different structural solution for the building – all within a controlled budget. The new modern layout has provided the building with greater flexibility of use and together with other sustainable elements, resulted in the building winning the BCO Award for Innovation in 2008.
